Vintage British Railway Signal Target Board Red White Black Railwayana 38cm
Description:
Original vintage British railway signalling target board / signal face.
Circular metal construction with a bold red vertical centre stripe, white background and distinctive black curved markings to either side.
Approx. 38cm / 15 inches diameter.
The reverse retains its original dark painted finish and two substantial threaded mounting studs, showing that this was originally fixed as part of railway signalling equipment rather than being a decorative sign.
The exact signalling application of this particular target pattern has not been positively identified, so it is being described conservatively as a railway signal target board / signal face.
British railways used a wide variety of mechanical disc and target signals to control and indicate movements around yards, sidings, junctions and other operational areas. Mechanical signal targets were mounted to operating mechanisms and changed position to give drivers their visual indication. Traditional rotating disc signals were widely used for shunting movements.
Genuine railway service condition with scratches, scuffs, paint wear, surface corrosion and rusting to the original mounting hardware. The face retains a particularly strong graphic appearance.
Left completely as found and unrestored.
An unusual piece of original British railwayana, ideal for a signalling collection, industrial interior, workshop, garage, pub/bar display or film and television prop.
