This is an Antique Telegraph Messenger Call Box made by the National Electrical Manufacturing company of Milford, Connecticut.
National was purchased by the Bunnell Telegraphic and Electrical Company in June 1901.
The call box has a spring driven mechanism that calls for a telegraph messenger boy when the handle is wound. These were located in businesses in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
This unit has 1895 inscribed in the mechanism, which I assume is the date of manufacture. The case looks very similar to one in patent number 329,871 for a Telegraph Call-Box, invented by F. B. Wood in 1885 and assigned to the New Haven Clock Company of New Haven, Connecticut.
Please examine the pictures carefully, make your own assessment of cosmetic condition and ask any questions before buying.
