This a genuine vintage 1950s varsity jacket

It is made by the Lasley Knitting Company Seattle USA.
The Wool product label (WPL) 12392 issued to textile manufacturers dates the jacket between 1941-1959
These jackets were custom made for the individual student/athlete and often had custom name labels which would prevent them getting mixed up. This one was made for a J Bleakmore, his custom name label is in the right pocket (see pic).

The jacket features a purple pure new wool finish to front and back with cream leathers arms and pocket trims.
Breathable eyelets under arms
Fold down cuffs/fold up collar (see pics).
Elasticated ribbed collar, cuffs and hems in purple with contrasting twin stripes in off white/cream and thick yellow stripe.
Thick chenille L.W lettering to chest.
7 press stud fastening
2 Front hand pockets
Hang loop to back of neck.

This is a great quality jacket, weighing approx 1.2kg. The quality on these early American Varsity/Letter jacket is excellent with quality wool and leather used. You just can't buy them like this today.

The size label indicates 38" (approx small 36-38) but please also check the measurements below.
it measures approx 21" underarm to underarm across the front when laid flat and fastened up (see pic 10).
25" in length (base of collar at back to bottom hem).
18" underarm to cuff.
18" across shoulders approx (no actual seams due to design).
24" shoulder seam to cuff approx (no actual shoulder seam due to design).

It is pictured on a 38"chest mannequin.

Please check measurements to ensure the correct fit for you.

The jacket is in good vintage condition with a lovely aged patina to the leather on the arms.
The leather is of great quality and is really thick but it is still flexible.
It has always been stored indoors and has been part of my own personal collection.
N.b there is some wear to leather around shoulders with some small repairs.
A light mark to front/a small knick to back of neck/right shoulder.
Lining is very good but has some discolouration around upper arm areas.
See pics 19-24.
