Proposal
This reliquary is a richly decorated devotional ensemble, likely of 19th‑century Italian or Franco‑Italian craftsmanship, centered on a painted portrait of Saint James of the Marches (Sanctus Iacobus de Marchia), the 15th‑century Franciscan preacher and theologian. The central image, executed on paper or a small plaque, depicts the saint in dark monastic habit, haloed, and holding a crucifix, following traditional iconography.
The portrait is framed within a miniature architectural structure composed of polychrome columns, gilded ornamentation, floral motifs, and small cherubic figures. The frame is embellished with metallic filigree, gilded paper, and colored decorative elements, giving the object a precious and festive appearance typical of 19th‑century reliquary art.
Around the central portrait are arranged several holy relics, each accompanied by its customary Latin label:
Relics included
Saint James of the Marches (S. Jacobi de Marchia)
Saint Faustin (S. Faustini)
Thorn from the Crown of Christ (De Spina Coronae D.N.J.C.)

Saint Margaret, Virgin (S. Margaritae Virg.)
Saint Sabin (S. Sabini)
Saint Benignus (S. Benigni)
Veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary (De Velo B.M.V.)
Each relic is set within a small decorated compartment, surrounded by gold threads, embossed paper, and occasionally glass beads, following the traditional filigree technique used in devotional reliquaries.
