This hammer is designed to mark timber in a way that survives transport and handling.
It has two ends, one WP and the other a broad arrow - shown in the photo with a stamped block of wood.
The Arrow Stamp: This is the historic British Broad Arrow (or "crow's foot") mark. It indicates that the hammer was officially War Department or Ministry of Defence (MOD) property manufactured for military engineering, rail, or pioneering use.
The "WP" Stamp: This is typically an inspector's stamp or a manufacturer's identification mark common on military-contracted hand tools supplied to British forces throughout the 20th century.
Part of the WP mark has chipped off. Other wise condition is good.
