Simply unscrew the pen from the bottom section, turning counter-clockwise, and insert your batteries positive (+) end facing up.
Hold the engraver just like a pencil, with your thumb over the control button. Press the button, apply slight pressure, and hold the tool at a slight angle against the surface you're engraving. To turn it off, simply release thumb pressure from the control button. To replace the tip, gently grasp and pull the old one out, then firmly push the new tip in.
