The 1952 Formula 1 season was run to Formula 2 regulations, and Ferrari’s 500 F2 was built specifically to exploit them. Alberto Ascari’s dominance that year was absolute — he won six of the seven championship rounds, including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, and took the first of his two consecutive World Championships with a completeness that left the opposition looking for solutions to a problem they could not solve. The 500 F2’s 4-cylinder engine, developed by Aurelio Lampredi, delivered its power reliably and consistently across circuits as varied as Spa, the Bremgarten, and Silverstone’s open runways.
Ascari in 1952 was at the very peak of his ability — an Italian driver in an Italian car winning for Italy with a frequency that echoed the great national champions of the pre-war era. His No. 15 at Silverstone won the British GP as part of an unbroken sequence of victories that confirmed him as the best driver in the world. CMR’s 1:18 diecast model captures the championship-winning car in Rosso Corsa at approximately 20cm in length with a highly detailed sealed bodyshell, presented with display base.
