It's a huge hit recording exceptionally good sales for a jazz CD in recent years. Certainly it's a product of the Lupin effect and it's true that some people may frown upon it. However he is currently the most popular jazz pianist in the Japanese jazz live scene enjoyed by both young people and the general public and he himself composed the music for Lupin so there's really nothing to criticize.
