This postcard shows a view of an early occupation in Upstate NY. The men in view are gravel mine workers on site of a gravel pit. In view are excavation and screening tools. In view is a conveyor elevator loading into a wooden screening or sorting structure. The materials were likely used for road work, railroad ballast or even canal construction. The card front is printed and reads Gilletts Gravel Bed Baldwinsville NY. Card comes from a collection of Erie Canal construction postcards.
The back describes the workers names and is dated Oct 12 '10. One man is named Ross Herrick. Ross was a property owner on Rural Route 1 in Baldwinsville. The owner of the operation Gillette, was Chauncey Gillette, who also lived in the same area as Herrick.
The card back is printed HA Myer & Co Syracuse. The card back is divided and is not postmarked. Condition is good to very good with slight tiny tear at the bottom edge as shown. Guaranteed vintage and original. The watermark is not on the postcard you are buying here.
