The Williams FW15C is one of the most technically sophisticated Formula 1 cars ever built — a machine that combined active suspension, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and a suite of electronic driver aids so comprehensive that it effectively reduced the championship to a contest between those who had access to it and those who did not. Designed by Adrian Newey and powered by the Renault RS5 V10, the FW15C gave Alain Prost the tools with which the Frenchman won his fourth and final World Championship in 1993, a title he claimed with a completeness and authority that masked how dominant the Williams package truly was over the opposition.
The British Grand Prix at Silverstone was one of the season’s defining occasions — Prost in the No. 2 FW15C demonstrating the combination of tactical intelligence and outright pace that had made him one of the sport’s greatest champions across a career spanning more than a decade at the very front of Formula 1. It would prove to be his final year of racing; Prost announced his retirement at the end of 1993, leaving the sport with four titles and 51 race victories.
