Out of print 1992 CD on the Czech label Multisonic featuring the Blagovest Choral Ensemble in sacred choral music from 19th- and early 20th-century Russia. This is a disc that transports you out of the mundane world into a timeless place of grandeur, courtesy of the majestic homophonic writing, which gives the folk-sounding material a very reverent, colorful sound. If you're familiar with Rachmaninoff's Vespers you know how powerful this can be, Even people who haven't heard this liturgical tradition are familiar with one version of it -- the stately opening of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture imitates it with the strings and winds. The eighteen works, mostly for chorus but a couple with vocal soloists, include Five Choirs from "All Night Vigil" by Viktor Kalinnikov (brother of Vasily), Dmitri Bortnyansky's Trio No. 3, Pavel Chesnokov's Weep not for me, O Mother, and Alexander Kastalsky's Six Psalms. See photo for complete list of composers and works. Booklet notes are in English, German, and Russian.

Disc, booklet, and case are in mint condition.

About Jimmosk's CDs
I sell high-quality, little-known works, mostly 19th- and 20th-century. Many of the CDs are used, some are still-sealed, and most are the only one of that disc I have to offer. I sell a low volume of CDs, but that way I can listen to each (except the sealed ones :-) and describe the music to give you a better idea of what you're in for before you plunge into the unknown!
