This is the classic Athearn HO-scale SD40-2 platform, representing EMD's extremely successful six-axle SD40-2 diesel locomotive. The extended “snoot” nose makes this version particularly desirable for modelers wanting to create one of the prototype railroads that operated long-nose SD40-2 variants.

The locomotive is finished in undecorated black, giving the modeler an excellent starting point for a custom railroad, prototype-specific paint scheme, or detailing project.
