ANTIQUE GERMAN 800 SILVER REPOUSSÉ & PIERCED BOWL — ATTRIBUTED TO ADOLF MAYER, FRANKFURT
A magnificent antique German silver bowl featuring exceptionally detailed repoussé, chasing, and pierced work, with a wonderfully sculptural scene of playful putti/cherubs in the center.
The oval bowl is surrounded by an elaborate openwork border of flowers, foliage, scrolls, and Rococo-style ornament, with three decorative cartouches incorporated into the design. The level of detail is remarkable, particularly in the dimensional figures and finely worked floral border.
The piece is stamped 800 and bears the AMS maker's mark, which is associated with Adolf Mayer of Frankfurt am Main. The style and construction are consistent with documented Adolf Mayer silver of the late 19th/early 20th century.
Circa 1900
Very good antique condition with expected age-related surface wear, patina, light scratches and some areas of oxidation/darkening within the recessed and pierced decoration. The patina particularly emphasizes the extraordinary depth of the repoussé work.
