The San Francisco Oracle, Volume 1, Number 3, an original 1966 issue of the legendary underground newspaper produced during the emergence of San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury counterculture and psychedelic movement.

This issue features a striking front cover centered around the I Ching hexagram “Fu – Return (The Turning Point).” Interior pages contain the Oracle’s distinctive combination of counterculture journalism, experimental artwork, photography, poetry, advertisements, spiritual writing, and commentary on the rapidly developing alternative culture of San Francisco.

Notable content includes Gary Snyder’s “Buddhism & The Coming Revolution,” along with coverage relating to Ken Kesey, Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco State College, local events, alternative businesses, and the broader cultural and spiritual movements taking shape in the Bay Area during the mid-1960s.

An excellent original piece of San Francisco underground press history from the period immediately preceding the Summer of Love. The newspaper shows age-related toning, its original horizontal fold, light edge wear, marks and other signs of handling consistent with age.
