The Yamaha CA-2000 is one of the landmark Japanese integrated amplifiers of the late 1970s and the model that made Yamaha's Class A / Class B switching famous. A front-panel operation switch moves the main amplifier between NORMAL (Class B) for 120 W + 120 W into 8 ohms and CLASS A for a pure 30 W + 30 W, so the same amplifier can be run either as a powerful workhorse or as a low-power Class A machine. It is a DC-coupled design with a dual-FET equaliser stage, a dedicated low-noise MC head amplifier and Yamaha's 20-step attenuator-type tone controls.
Key Features:
•
Class A / Class B switchable main amplifier — 30 W + 30 W in Class A, 120 W + 120 W in Class B (8 ohms), and 140 W + 140 W into 4 ohms.
•
DC-coupled power amplifier rated at 0.03% total harmonic distortion from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
•
Dual-FET equaliser stage with an 82 dB signal-to-noise ratio, plus a dedicated low-noise MC phono head amplifier for moving-coil cartridges.
•
High-precision tone control using a 20-step, 21-position attenuator rather than a conventional potentiometer.
•
Twin large power meters with a wooden side cabinet, in the classic Yamaha black-face styling.
