Antique Acme Glasgow The Scot Hickory Mashie Niblick Short Iron c.1925 Display

A Characterful Antique Scottish Hickory Golf Iron

A very attractive antique hickory-shafted Mashie Niblick, dating most likely to the 1920s, with an unusually good collection of period markings to the back of the head.

The club is marked “The Scot”, with its distinctive central emblem, together with “Mashie Niblick”, “Warranted Made in Scotland”, “Rustless”, “Acme Golf Co. Glasgow” and “Special”.

The Mashie Niblick was one of the traditional named irons used before numbered iron sets became standard. It was a relatively lofted short iron used principally for approach work, broadly occupying the territory later covered by the more lofted numbered irons.

Original Hickory Shaft

The club retains its lovely light-coloured hickory shaft, with clearly visible natural grain and considerable period character.

The handle end is presently bare hickory, with no leather grip wrapping remaining. Small old pins/fixings are visible in the upper part of the shaft, including one which stands slightly proud. These have been left entirely as found.

The head remains firmly attached to the shaft with no detectable movement.

Head & Face

The iron head has a traditional long-dash/short-dash horizontal scored face and shows extensive genuine playing wear consistent with a club of this age.

There are numerous old marks, cuts and knocks across the head, with more noticeable impact wear around the toe-side striking area and some wear towards the heel. There is also some surface rust around the hosel/shaft fixing pin and traces of old light-coloured paint or residue around this area.

Importantly for display, the extensive stamped markings on the reverse remain particularly strong and legible.

Superb Period Display Piece

At approximately a century old, this is now as much an attractive piece of Scottish golfing history and sporting display as it is an old golf iron.

The combination of the pale hickory shaft, heavily played iron head and prominent The Scot / Acme Golf Co. Glasgow / Made in Scotland markings gives it excellent visual character.

Ideal for a golf collection, study, office, clubhouse, golf room, bar, pub or hotel display, or as an interesting decorative piece for anyone with an interest in the history of golf.

It is being sold as an antique collectable/display club rather than as a club prepared for modern play.

Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the considerable age-related wear and character in detail.

Postage & Packaging

Every golf club is carefully packaged to help ensure it arrives in the condition described in the listing.

The postage and packaging charge reflects some of the cost involved in sending your order, and not just the courier's delivery charge. It covers the cost of a golf club box selected to suit your club, protective packing materials and, of course, the courier service.

Careful packaging is an important part of the service I provide and helps ensure your club reaches you exactly as described.
