Camp at Carrollton Aug. 28

Dear Sister,

     I received a letter from Morris this morning, and before answering his I thought that I would let you know where we were stopping. We are encamped at the outskirts of Carrollton. A very nice place. Things sell very reasonable here and I am living like a fighting cock. We can get ice cream, homemade cakes, pies & fish. They are in camp all the time. Milk at 10 cents a quart. Don’t you think that I can live full now. That is as long as money lasts. We have had a very nice trip from Vicksburg, it is a very nice country from there down. We are within 3 miles of New Orlean. We can go there for a dime on the cars. Banks groups are encamped close by ours. The boys fight each other like tigers. The eastern and western boys can’t agree together. Leut. Hunt is commanding the battery now as Ege (?) has resigned and ? home. I have not much to say this morning. Goodbye, give my love to all and except (accept) the same from your brother Marl Nixon
