Offered for your consideration is one (1) Boston Acoustics 11-116-0 19mm (¾”) dome tweeter removed from my Boston CR1 center channel speaker, USA-manufactured in 1995. This tweeter was also used in the Runabout II and possibly some other Boston Acoustics speaker/s in this production era.
It is also identical to the 11-102-0 high-frequency driver used in the SubSat6 Series II, aside from not having a shielded magnet (which isn't needed any longer). Boston made a number of similar-looking 19mm tweeters from the late 1980’s through mid-1990’s, but some have a slightly larger faceplate so buyer diligence is needed here.
So, please take a look at my large photos, the measurements, and read the remaining description to decide if this capable Boston tweeter should be yours.
This Boston Acoustics tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. It has a perfect radiating surface, well-protected behind the acoustically transparent wave guide. Plus, the plastic faceplate looks sharp with no chips, scratches, or cracks by the mount holes. And, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity (red dot side is positive) and have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, it’s exceptionally well-preserved.
Most importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds very strong and clear. Plus, I tested its DC resistance at 6.6Ω, consistent with its nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the faceplate measures 3¼” x 2⅝”, it stands ¾” tall, and the mounting holes are 2” short way / 2½” long way apart, c-t-c.
This is a nice find if your CR1 or other suitable model has a blown or damaged tweeter and will have everything sounding its best again. Long discontinued, it’d also be a smart spare to have around for future needs.
