Sterling silver match safe associated with the Hoboken, New Jersey Charter Commission dated March 21, 1912. The piece is believed to be attributed to Julius Lichtenstein, a Hoboken attorney and civic figure involved in municipal governance during New Jerseys Progressive Era.

The Charter Commission functioned during statewide municipal reform efforts promoted under Governor Woodrow Wilsons administration, which advanced commission-based government in New Jersey cities. Produced by Simons Brothers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this match safe represents a rare NJ early 20th century American civic presentation silver piece.
