The M1841 Rifleman's Box carried .54 caliber cartridges and was supposed to replace the M1839. The difference was the addition of an implement pouch for every soldier so armed. 4 Arsenal packs were stored in the bottom (20 Cartridges) and an additional 20 in the upper divided sections of the one piece tin. These were belt rigged. These boxes were used with the Mississippi Rifle, the Hall Rifle, later with Sharps rifles and other .54 caliber rifled weapons. Many were issued to early Civil War Militia units on both sides.
As with most of my products, these boxes were cut from patterns taken from original items when I served as a museum director under the auspices of the US Army Center of Military History. The tins are not .58 cal common Reenacting tins, they are the genuine size and construction of .54 cal tins. The finial is not a sutler row finial either. It is a genuine copy of the Ordnance Department approved round ball finial appropriate to the period. Every item is hand cut, hand dyed and hand stitched as were the originals in a one man, veteran owned and operated shop, so no foreign stuff here. If you are looking for machine stitched, cheap, imported copies, keep looking, such is not here! Since this is not my day job, my prices are not as steep as the "Big Boys," either! Check my feedback, check the prices of hand made accoutrement then bid with confidence. THIS AIN'T NO MUSEUM, THIS STUFF IS FOR SALE!
