Winton & Co. Ltd. London & Montrose Special Z2 Mashie – Antique Hickory Golf Club
A characterful antique hickory-shafted Winton & Co Ltd “London & Montrose Special” Z2 Mashie, with an attractive aged appearance that makes it particularly well suited to display in a golf collection, clubhouse, pub, hotel, office, shop, display cabinet or other golfing-themed setting.
The forged iron head carries the desirable original markings WINTON & CO LTD – LONDON & MONTROSE – SPECIAL, together with Z 2 MASHIE and the distinctive diamond cleek mark. The striking face retains its extensive original dot-punched pattern.
The loft appears broadly comparable to what would now be thought of as approximately a 7–8 iron, although historic mashie terminology does not correspond exactly with modern numbered irons.
Hickory Shaft & Size
The club retains its old wooden/hickory shaft and currently measures approximately 31 inches overall.
The original leather grip is no longer present, leaving the upper section of the wooden shaft exposed. Anyone wishing to use the club for play would therefore need to have a suitable replacement grip professionally fitted. It is being offered primarily as an antique collectible and display piece rather than as a club ready for immediate play.
Condition
A genuine old club showing considerable age and use, with oxidation, patination, marks and wear to the iron head and age-related wear, surface deterioration and finish loss to the hickory shaft. Please study the detailed photographs, which form an important part of the condition description.
It has deliberately not been aggressively cleaned, polished or restored, allowing it to retain the wonderfully aged character and patina that make early hickory golf clubs so appealing.
An atmospheric piece of early golfing history and an especially attractive display club, whether individually displayed or incorporated into a larger collection of antique golfing memorabilia.
Postage & Packaging
Every golf club is carefully packaged to help ensure it arrives in the condition described in the listing.
The postage and packaging charge reflects some of the cost involved in sending your order, and not just the courier's delivery charge. It covers the cost of a golf club box selected to suit your club, protective packing materials and, of course, the courier service.
Careful packaging is an important part of the service I provide and helps ensure your club reaches you exactly as described.
