Description

A superb matching pair of antique solid cast iron dumbbells, dating to around the late Victorian / Edwardian period, c.1890–1920.

A particularly attractive early form with large spherical cast-iron ends and straight integral handles. The balls retain their pronounced casting seams, irregularities and wonderfully aged dark surface.

Each dumbbell carries an old cast “5” weight marking to one end, believed to denote 5lb.

These are considerably more characterful than later manufactured gym weights and make excellent pieces of early physical culture / bodybuilding / gymnasium history.
