Per Ung (1933–2013) – Original Signed Large Drypoint – Intimate Embrace

A striking and highly expressive original drypoint print by renowned Norwegian figurative artist Per Ung (1933–2013), depicting a couple in an intimate embrace.

The work is pencil signed “Per Ung” lower right and inscribed “Eget trykk, koldnål” lower left. “Koldnål” is Norwegian for drypoint, while “Eget trykk” indicates an artist's own impression/printing.

This is an original work of printmaking, produced from the artist's drypoint plate, rather than a later reproduction. The extremely fine incised lines, extensive cross-hatching and richly worked darker passages can be clearly seen in the detailed photographs.

Subject

An intimate and highly evocative figurative study of a couple closely embracing.

Dimensions

Overall portrait-format gilt frame: (H64cm×W58cm)

Landscape-format image: (H33cm×W40cm)

Presentation & Provenance

Presented under glass with a wide mount in a substantial gilt frame. The reverse retains its original Palletten Galleri, Oslo framing label, providing attractive Norwegian provenance and showing that the work was professionally framed in Oslo.

Condition

The original drypoint presents very well overall, with some age-related marks and natural signs of age. There is localised waviness/cockling to the paper along part of the lower right-hand side of the image/plate area, which is shown in the close-up photographs.

The gilt frame has age-related surface wear, cracking/crazing and areas of gilt loss. The lower-left corner has the most noticeable loss, followed by the upper-right corner, with considerably lighter wear to the remaining corners and elsewhere. These points have been deliberately photographed in detail.

The age and wear to the frame do not detract significantly from what remains a very attractive and substantial presentation.

Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the artwork, signature, inscription, drypoint detail, paper condition, frame condition and original Oslo gallery/framing label.

A particularly appealing signed original Per Ung drypoint, combining an intimate figurative subject with the artist's own “Eget trykk, koldnål” inscription and its established Oslo framing provenance.
