The coin has been designed by Quebec actor, singer and jewellery designer Caroline Néron, featuring the gold silhouette of a leafless tree in winter, interspersed with crystals to convey the sparkling beauty of snow and ice. Only the tree design appears on the face of the coin, while the engraved date "2014",  face value of "3 DOLLARS" and word “Canada” appear on the obverse around the portrait of Queen Elizabeth.
