Unusual and highly expressive vintage GERAN portrait brooch depicting Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune (1875 to 1955), the renowned American educator, humanitarian and civil-rights leader. This substantial statement brooch features Bethune rendered in dramatic three dimensional high relief, with beautifully modeled facial features, textured hair, expressive eyes and small earrings. The dark aged surface and oxidation with the recessed areas give the portrait exceptional depth and an almost sculptural, museum piece quality. The reverse displays the hollow dimensional construction, traditional pin back closure and an applied rectangular plaque marked Geran. This brooch is a fascinating piece of historical portrait jewelry. So unique! PLEASE NOTE: No returns will be accepted. We will not accept returns because an item "does not fit" or because the buyer "changed their mind". Be sure to check out our other listings and our eBay store items (over 4550, all on sale).
