A wonderfully whimsical Buèche-Girod Lancia Radiator Grille from the 1960s, crafted in 18k yellow gold and inspired by the unmistakable front grille of Lancia automobiles. Buèche-Girod became known for these automotive-themed creations, translating iconic car designs into sculptural wristwatches.

The asymmetrical case frames a grey dial printed with white lines to mimic the radiator grille, centred by an applied blue and silver enamel Lancia shield. Raised pyramidal hour markers catch the light beautifully against the geometric backdrop, while slim baton hands keep the design remarkably clean. An unsigned crown sits charmingly off-centre at 4 o’clock, preserving the automotive silhouette.

Powered by a Buèche-Girod manual-wind movement based on the ETA 65 caliber, it is fitted to a warm brown leather strap with contrasting white stitching that echoes the grille pattern on the dial.

The 18k yellow gold case bears the appropriate Swiss gold hallmarks and maker’s marks. Interestingly, no serial or reference numbers are present on the exterior, inner caseback, or bezel—a trait occasionally encountered on small-production vintage Buèche-Girod pieces.

Equal parts automotive design and mid-century watchmaking, it is an uncommon conversation piece with far more presence on the wrist than a conventional dress watch.
