He joined the Navy in 1916. At the outbreak of the Second World War he was the Director Air Material at the Admiralty. He Commanded the Cruiser Cleopatra in 1941/42. Vice Controller (Air) and Chief of Naval Air Equipment Forces Chairman BOAC 1960 and of BOAC Cunard in 1962.
