FROM PRINCETON UNIVERSITY GRAD WILLIAM RUSSELL SILVERS, TO STANLEY S BERGEN, RELATIVE OF Dr. Elston H. Bergen, dean of Princeton physicians, who had brought more than 3,500 Princeton babies into the world, died this afternoon at the age of 81, after a week's illness. Until his fatal illness he had continued his regular practice and had made visits to the Princeton Hospital as a member of its staff. He was township physician, president of the Princeton Savings Bank and a retired Major in the Medical Corps of the New Jersey National Guard. Born near Princeton in 1852, Dr. Bergen attended Columbia University and the College of Physicians and Surgeons, graduating from the latter in 1877. He was the director of the medical staff of the Princeton University Athletic Association in the '80s, served as chief of the old volunteer fire department, was a member of the board of the Princeton Savings Bank for many years and had served on the Board of Health and other public bodies. Until 1914 he for many years was a surgeon with the State Medical Division of the National Guard. During the World War he was the local examining physician for the draft. He was a member of the Nassau Club, the Firemen's Relief Association and the Masonic Lodge. A widow, Mrs. Phoebe B. Bergen; two sons and a daughter survive. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon. ---
