A vintage hand-painted paper and bamboo Asian parasol, believed to originate from China in the 1920s or early 1930s, probably for the export market. Hand-painted decoration of hibiscus(?) flowers on a light blue background and a large exotic butterfly. Bamboo shaft, wooden ribs, painted wooden handle, frayed cloth strap and broken leather strap at handle end, metal hook for hanging at other end. Fully operational, secured with metal clip when open, opens and shuts smoothly. Length when closed: 60 cm. Diameter when open: 32 cm.
