An enchanting pocket-sized book (17 x 11.5 cm) of selected essays and illustrations about gardens, reprinted in 1920 from 1st publication in 1910. Edited by Alfred H Hyatt, the names of the contributors would have been familiar to readers in Edwardian times. They include E. V. B. (Eleanor Vere Boyle 1825–1916, a well-known garden writer and illustrator who published under her initials only), the poet Alice Meynell (1847–1922), and posthumous extracts from the writings of William Cowper, Sir Walter Scott and John Ruskin. Colour illustrations are taken from watercolours by Margaret Helen Waterfield (1863–1953), and monochrome 'decorations' including the cover illustration are by A W Graham Brown. Rare copy, no other examples of this edition known.
