This item appears to be a vintage celluloid or carved bone sewing needle case.It often features a threaded cap and may come with a small attached tassel.Similar items were manufactured in Germany during the early 20th century.The lower yellow portion acts as a thimble or base for the container. The thimble does have a crack as shown in the picture. I think this is so wonderful.
