An exceptional archive of 35 original handwritten letters (34 with original envelopes) documenting the courtship of Howard Selby Atterbury and Miss Ripley during the years 1898–1900.
The correspondence follows the development of their relationship from early acquaintance through deep affection while Howard establishes himself in business, including correspondence written from New York and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Most of the letters are on very good thick paper.
The correspondence forms a cohesive narrative rather than a random assortment of family letters and provides an engaging glimpse into upper-middle-class American life and international business at the turn of the twentieth century.
