The Renault 12 Gordini was the performance variant of Renault’s family saloon, developed with the involvement of Amédée Gordini — the Italian-born engineer known in France as “Le Sorcier” (the Sorcerer) for his ability to extract remarkable performance from modest machinery. The 12 Gordini’s 1.6-litre engine produced around 113hp, enough to give the relatively light saloon performance that genuinely surprised larger and more expensive rivals, while the suspension modifications, closer-ratio gearbox, and limited-slip differential ensured the car could use that performance effectively on the winding French roads for which it was ideally suited.
The visual identity was as immediate as the performance — the classic blue livery with twin white stripes that Gordini variants wore throughout the 1970s became one of the most recognisable performance colour schemes of the French motor industry. In Blue 418, the specific shade that defined the Gordini range, the Renault 12 Gordini is shown exactly as period photographs record it. Otto Mobile’s 1:12 resin model captures the car at approximately 36cm in length, individually numbered in a limited edition of 1500. Officially licensed.
