1946- 1947 Andrea Model P-163 Portable Shortwave tube Radio with original batteries. The case features a distinct faux snake or reptile skin texture. The tuning dial displays both Kilocycles and Meters. Has a latched flip up front cover that stores into the top of the radio, latch works but no key to lock it.

Radio is untested and the wires to the batteries have been cut. Cosmetically it is in fair condition. It’s missing one of the three knobs, the power/volume clicks on and operates smoothly, tuning knob works smoothly, center seems to be the band selection and does clicks as it should. Leather handle is broken but will include the pieces. The radio shows wear and has some paint splatters, scratch, dents and it appears someone used white medical tape in spots and has left some white adhesive on the inside of the front cover and across the bottom in the back. Frank Andrea of Woodside New Jersey, made a splash in the late 1920's but his firm failed during the early part of the depression. He recreated the business in 1934 with a new and profitable business plan, producing high-tech devices, many for export. During World War II, his company thrived with war work and in 1950's he became a television pioneer. This particular radio used pre-war technology combined with a superhetrodyne tuning system that was very popular during the post-war boom.
