Antique Caucasian Niello SILVER Belt Marked in Russian CK 500 gr Nds Repair No Reserve!

Antique Caucasian Niello Silver Belt

Needs repair, leather has broken in spots.

Late 19th to Early 20th Century

Measures 34 inches long by 1 inch wide, Russian Maker’s Mark CK.

This antique Caucasian silver belt, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, is a striking example of craftsmanship typical of the Caucasus region. The belt measures approximately 34”

x 1” and consists of intricately linked rectangular niello silver elements, richly adorned with floral and geometric designs. Each element is securely strung onto a leather strap, with overlapping links connecting the ends.

A notable feature of this belt is the intentional use of niello, a blackened silver inlay, to highlight intricate details. The Russian maker’s mark “CK” ("IS" in Cyrillic). appears on many of the links, though the Kokoshnik marks and the 84 zolotnik (875/1000 silver fineness) stamps are not clearly discernible. This belt showcases the traditional Caucasian design, with influences seen in Russian, Georgian, Armenian, and Azeri styles, making it a versatile and wearable piece of history.

Item Specifics:

·Material: 875/1000 Niello Silver

·Weight: the 45 single links weigh grams; the belt hook weighs 80 grams with a small piece of leather, and I estimate the belt loop to weigh 65 grams. The entire belt must weigh at least 500 grams.
