1965 SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL & QUEEN ELIZABETH II COMMEMORATIVE CROWN COIN

 

The 1965 Elizabeth II Winston Churchill coin is a British commemorative Crown (five-shilling) piece. It was minted to honor the former Prime Minister following his death and is historically significant as the first time a non-royal commoner was featured on a British coin alongside the monarch.

  • Obverse: Features the young portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Mary Gillick.
  • Reverse: Features a portrait of Sir Winston Churchill in a "siren suit" designed by Oscar Nemon.
  • Composition: Copper-nickel alloy (contains no silver).
  • Weight / Diameter: 28.28 grams / 38.61 mm.
