This is a Spalding Autograph Series Harry Davis bat which is 34 1/2 inches long and weighs 35.1 ounces. The throat of the bat is uncracked but I list it as fair to good condition mainly because of 2 issues. It has a 3 1/2 to 4 inch slice of wood missing on the back side of the barrel ( see photo ) and multiple “dings “ in the wood as if someone hit an object with a sharp edge multiple times ( I do not believe that these are spike marks-please see photos ) Otherwise the bat is in nice shape and presents quite well, never the less the dings and missing wood slice exist. According to Dave Bushings Guide to Spalding Bats this model was available from 1912-1925
Harry Davis was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1873 and played 22 years in Major League Baseball from 1895 to 1917 mostly as a first baseman. He played for the New York Giants ( 1895-6 ), the Pittsburgh Pirates ( 1896-8 ) the Louisville Colonels ( 1898 ) the Washington Senators ( 1898-9 ) and the Philadelphia Athletics ( 1901-11 ). He was then a player manager for the Cleveland Naps ( 1912 ) and a player coach for the Philadelphia Athletics ( 1913-17 ) where as a player or coach was on 3 World Series Champions teams ( 1910, 11 and 13. )
He was the first player to hit for the cycle in the American League ( 1901 ) and he led the American league 4x in home runs, 3x in doubles, 2x in runs batted in and 1x in runs scored. His career batting average is .277
