This exciting 320k low print run note has been graded Superb Gem Uncirculated 69 STAR with Exceptional Paper Quality by PMG. This note is pack fresh with beautifully even margins, razor sharp corners, and amazing inking while being as close to near perfect as possible. PMG has graded only (258) examples of fr.2032-F* and this note is at the top of the population being tied with (3) other notes for the highest grade, but this note has the added desirablity of having PMG's STAR designation for exceptional eye appeal and is tied with just 1 other note for this distinction!  There are no recent auction results for either PMG piece, but PCGS Currency has graded a 70PPQ example that over years has sold for $800, $1400, & most recently for $2,160...if you are looking for comps.!  Exact, total population numbers for the 69 EPQ star designation notes are difficult to pin down because PMG's population report updates weekly and tracks notes individually by Friedberg (Fr.) catalog number rather than displaying a company-wide macro tally for specific grade-and-designation combinations.

However, looking at the macro trends of the registry, a true government-issued U.S. note sitting in a 69 EPQ ★ holder is exceedingly rare—estimated at fewer than a couple hundred notes total across all small-size and large-size federal currency. To get the PMG Star (Star) Designation, a note can't just be clean; it must possess exceptional eye appeal that completely outclasses the standard baseline for its grade. PMG looks for:

  • Exceptionally deep, heavy plate embossing (you can visibly see and feel the depth of the ink pressed into the paper).

  • Vibrant, perfectly saturated ink colors that haven't suffered micro-fading.

  • Pristine, bright paper quality that exceeds the already rigorous EPQ standard.

Because a 69 EPQ is already a near-perfect technical grade (almost completely indistinguishable from a 70 to the naked eye), finding one that also has over-the-top, stunning visual attributes like deep embossing or standout ink vibrancy is incredibly uncommon. In the realm of true U.S. federal currency, a 69 EPQ Star is widely considered a "Functional 70"—a premier condition rarity that collectors fight over because actual 70s are so statistically unavailable!
