New version for June 2026, now with audio! This one is just the PCB
Apple Macintosh Mac 128K PicoMac with SD card & Audio DAC option for Raspberry Pi Pico - Assembled.
Now includes support for Micro SD card reader & Audio DAC. Green PCB. Support for Pico 1 and Pico 2.
This project uses a Raspberry Pi Pico to emulate an original Macintosh 128K
Using a VGA monitor and USB hub, keyboard and mouse. Saves to a Micro SD card.
Not Included:
You need a micro SD card FAT32, 5v 1a Mini USB power adapter, USB hub/keyboard/mouse.
Comes with a link to a download that has separate UF2 firmware files for Pico 1 and Pico 2 boards, and a 40mb disc image you can drop onto a Micro SD card (includes Psion Chess, Think Pascal, Mac Draw, Mac Write, Missile Command and numerous other games, all with save options). This build is the 208k version. To get different Mac apps on the SD card we also provide a zip file of a MiniVMac Mac Plus emulator for Windows 10/11 that can read/write the SD card, for adding new software from the vintage Macintosh Garden website.
If you don't insert a micro SD card, the firmware boots from a built-in read-only 800k disc image instead.
Comes with a zip file download link for the following UF2 files:
Pico 1 - 128K with 512 x 342 resolution or 208K with 640 x 480 resolution.
Pico 2 - 128K with 512 x 342 resolution or 208K or 464K with 640 x 480 resolution.
(some games only work correctly 512x342 resolution)
The UF2 files have been compiled with SD card support & Audio DAC support.
You get the usual audio bong when you power the unit up and basic audio is supported in control panel
and in some games (watch my video clip). Any games with complicated audio probably won't work correctly.
Use simple headphones or powered line-in type speakers. 3.5mm headphone jack.
Remember, this one is just the PCB shown in photo 1
Look at our other items for a self-assembly kit or a pre-built one without a Pico 2 included.
