British Army Signaling Blackout Torch Battery Flashlight LAMP R.C. Ltd WWII 1940s

Excellent Condition no Dents no Rust

Tall: 12 cm (4-3/4 inches) Approx.

Manufacturer: The engraved stamp indicates "R.C. LTD," one of several British companies contracted to manufacture these lanterns on a large scale for the war effort. Design and Utility: Its design was adapted from bicycle lights of the time. However, the protruding metal bar in the center of the image is a straight belt clip, specifically designed for soldiers to attach it to their belt or combat equipment. "Blackout" Function: The front of these lanterns has a movable metal cover (like a shutter or visor). This served to direct the beam of light only to the ground or partially cover the lens, preventing the light from being seen by bombers or enemy forces at a distance. They were frequently used by the British Army Infantry, Civil Defence teams (such as UAV guards against air raids), and also for night signaling.
