Description

This is a good complete set of 3 volumes of 'The Adventurer', by John Hawkesworth published in good quality full leather bindings in 1808.

The last number of Johnson's ‘Rambler’ appeared on 14 March 1752. Encouraged by its success, John Hawkesworth, in company with Johnson, Bathurst, and Warton, started the ‘Adventurer,’ the first number of which was published on 7 Nov. 1752, and the last and 140th number on 9 March 1754.  Hawkesworth, who was the editor, and signed the last number with his full name, wrote some seventy or seventy-two of the papers.

These three volumes cover all of the 140 issues.  They each measure 16cm by 10.5cm.

All volumes are well bound though the front cover to volume one is loosely attached.  Internaly, they have very few age-related marks though volume 3 has staining from drops to the page edges, please see detailed photos.
