SAS SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINES RECIPE BOOK SWEDISH SMORGASBORD 1964 FOLK ART STYLE AVIATION
This 1964 Scandinavian Smörgåsbord recipe booklet was originally published and distributed by Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS). It has a large tear on the cover from top down near spine. My photos purposely show the damage in its worst light. However, this main flaw could be nicely repaired if done correctly. There are some small flaws on page edges and the spine has wear. But the distinct folk-art style illustration featured on the cover is by the notable Swedish artist Källström-Eklund.
This cook booklet was published by SAS (Scandinavian Airlines System) in the mid-1960s as a promotional cultural piece and educational culinary brochure. The text is in English and contains about 16 pages of traditional Swedish recipes, step-by-step assembly guides and cultural context detailing how to build a classic multi-course smörgåsbord feast.
During the golden age of aviation, airlines frequently produced high-quality travel and dining ephemera to highlight the cultures of their destination hubs. This specific booklet stands out as a highly collectible piece of mid-century airline memorabilia, celebrated both for its vintage culinary history and its distinct Scandinavian graphic art and excellent photography.
