If you can't afford the thousand plus dollars for the true first, this is a reasonable alternative for King's first novel. It is in every way the same as the first. Full maroon cloth boards. No bar code on the rear DJ panel. No mention of other books. No updated copy page with info including Bantam books. No mention anywhere of book club edition and no dot on rear cover. The only differences are this has the $13.95 price on the front flap instead of 5.95. It doesn't say first edition and have the P6 gutter code This code is Z16, which equates to April 1984. This is one of the earliest non book club trade editions on Ebay, or anywhere for that matter. I believe these early trade editions did not carry the print line as later editions did.
The book is super tight and appears unread. The boards are clean and straight with sharp corners and no wear. It has perfect hinges. The pages are clean with no tears, folds, waves or marks of any kind. The dust jacket is very nice with a short closed tear at the bottom front fold. Won't show in the new Brodart. There is some very minor yellowing to the white extremities. It is essentially a near fine Dj.
