Discover Hugh Laurie's second studio album, *Didn't It Rain*, a compelling follow-up to his acclaimed debut *Let Them Talk*. Building on his success celebrating and reviving classic New Orleans blues, Laurie takes a bold new direction, exploring the roots of the blues as it flows upstream into the American heartland. This album showcases Laurie's versatility and deepening musical exploration beyond the New Orleans sound.
*Didn't It Rain* features a diverse selection of songs spanning different eras and artists. It includes early pioneers such as W.C. Handy’s ‘St Louis Blues’ and Jelly Roll Morton’s ‘I Hate A Man Like You,’ alongside more recent influences like Dr. John’s ‘Wild Honey’ and Alan Price of The Animals with ‘Changes.’ The album was produced by Joe Henry and recorded at Ocean Way Studio in Los Angeles in January of this year.
The album is enriched by the talented Copper Bottom Band, whose members—Jay Bellerose, Kevin Breit, Vincent Henry, Greg Leisz, Robby Marshall, David Piltch, and Patrick Warren—bring heart and skill to each track. Supporting musicians Elizabeth Lea and Larry Goldings also contribute their expertise. Notably, *Didn't It Rain* features several lead vocal performances from Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno and soul singer Jean McClain, who has previously collaborated with artists such as Jimmy Cliff and Sheryl Crow.
Adding a special touch to this collection is the appearance of Grammy-winning blues artist Taj Mahal, who lends his vocals to a new rendition of Little Brother Montgomery’s ‘Vicksburg Blues.’ With its rich blend of historical reverence and contemporary artistry, *Didn't It Rain* exemplifies Hugh Laurie’s evolving musical journey and his dedication to the blues tradition.
