April 11, 1972...the third show of the tour.
Newcastle's City Hall featured an amazingly long 18 song first set, and in the second set THE OTHER ONE is just other-worldly!
Plus, in 1972 BROKEDOWN PALACE was fresh and new, not the going away Fare Thee Well it would become.
Maybe it was the unfriendly acoustics, or maybe this was just Phil's night, but on this recording the bass percolates throughout, and Keith just flys on the piano. Both are featured prominently in the mix. And, hey now, Eric Burden's mom was at this show!

Unlike most of the Dead's recent concert releases, which were recorded by Dan Healy on a stereo deck right at the soundboard, all the Europe '72 shows were recorded on 24-track machines and mixed down to stereo. The sound is amazing.
