The definitive work on the Civil War, told in a dramatic narrative style that is both enlightening and imminently readable. The books are in pretty good shape. I've never considered myself a history buff, but I read these books at the recommendation of a friend.

I expected a dry, documentary style of prose, but these are anything but! The author tells the story in a chronological and semi-narrative style that is easy to follow and even enjoyable to read.
