Our Story
People often ask, "How did you get into this business?"and just as often tell us we have the coolest job around. The truth is simple: our roots run deep in the automotive and motorcycle world.
NOSOEMPARTSNew Old Stock, Original Equipment Manufacturedis a family-owned and operated business, proudly independent and unaffiliated with any franchise. We are a father-and-son team, and our story began long before online sales were ever a thing.
It all started with my dad, who rebuilt a few salvage cars to earn some extra money. He soon brought me into the trade as a way to help save for college, and I was rebuilding and selling cars before I was even old enough to drive. Through countless hours in body shops, salvage yards, and auctions, the art of sourcing parts became second nature. For years, the two of us traveled togetherevaluating cars, hunting down the right parts to restore them, and working alongside body shops to bring them back to life.
In 2002, during my senior year of high school, a 1994 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo crossed the block at the Lenders & Insurers auto auction in Davenport, Iowa. I wanted that car more than anything. It had been hit hard and needed extensive work, but I was determined to have itif nothing else, we figured we could part it out. I got it for a steal. I never should have sold it, but as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
In those days, selling parts on eBay was practically unheard of; the market belonged to salvage yards running interconnected inventory systems. We had never so much as shipped an item. So we bought a digital camera, created an eBay account, listed the Supra, and decided to see what would happen. That car became our very first eBay sale.
I'll never forget coming home from school to find more than fifty messages waiting on the answering machine, all from people asking about the car. Remember, this was a time when few people carried cell phonesand for those who did, the Nokia 3310 was the one to have. From that moment, everything changed. We began acquiring salvage vehicles at auction and selling them to customers across the country and around the world.
As a kid, I always dreamed of owning a Harley-Davidson. My neighbor Paul and I would race up and down the sidewalks on our bicycles, playing cards clipped to the spokes with clothespinsconvinced we were already bikers. In 2005, we had the chance to start buying motorcycles, beginning with a 2003 Buell XB12R. Harleys were hard to come by back then, so we focused primarily on sport bikes: the Honda CBR600RR and 1000RR, Suzuki GSX-R600/750/1000 and Hayabusa, Yamaha YZF-R6 and R1, and Kawasaki ZX-6R and 10R. This is where the parts business truly came into its own. Heavily damaged bikes often sold cheap, so we would buy them and part them out.
By 2008, Harley-Davidsons had finally become affordable, and we began acquiring salvage and repossessed models. It didn't take long to discover that our customers struggled to find partsor at least to find them at a fair price (you know what they say HD stands for). We realized that if we could pair a bike with the very parts needed to repair it, that bike would be far easier to sell. So we took to the roadbuying out dealership inventories, sourcing parts at swap meets, and eventually hosting a swap meet of our own. We acquired parts, then more parts, and then still more.
As the motorcycle market shifted over the years, we made the decision to focus primarily on partsthough the occasional car or motorcycle still finds its way through our door. Some urges are simply too strong to resist.
We have been blessed to spend nearly 25 years building something of our own rather than punching a clock for someone else. A father and son running a business together is something many people dream of, yet few ever realize. From buying out dealerships across the country to working Midwest swap meets, the Denver Motorcycle Show, Daytona Bike Week, the Chief Blackhawk AMCA meet, Wauseon, and the Donnie Smith Bike Show; from chasing sales in Indianapolis, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas, Daytona Beach, and Kansas City to the long nights on the road in the truck and trailer; from unloading cars in the dead of night in Chicago to pulling trailer loads out of the old Leeds Chevrolet assembly plantevery mile has been worth it.
But the best part of all has never been the parts or the profit. It's the remarkable people we've met, the friendships we've forged, and the unforgettable memories we've made along the way.
This is the business we knowand the life we live.
