Here we have an original 1960s vintage Oris Super 17 jewel diver watch. It is the original model that the modern reissue 1965 Oris Diver is based on. It has the 36mm case diameter which has the chrome plated front and stainless-steel screw back. It has the black 60-minute bi-directional rotating dive bezel.
The dial is silver with the brushed sunburst finish radiating from the centre. It has the well sized round hour markers with the larger batons on the quarters. These have the original aged luminous tone. The date window sits at 3 o’clock and has the bevelled edges to the window. The date window has the white base tone with the black Arabic numerals. It is signed ‘Oris Super, ’17 Jewels’. It is also signed as ‘Waterproof’ and ‘Anti-shock’ with the Swiss Made text either side of 6 O’clock. The hands are original in the silver tone, with the thin central second hand.
The main section of the case is chrome plated brass. To the right-hand side is the original Oris signed crown.
The case back has the 6 notches for opening and is engraved with the ‘Oris’ logo to the centre. It is also signed with the features ‘Anti-shock’, ‘Waterproof’, ‘Antimagnetic’, ‘Stainless Steel back’. It is also marked as having the base metal top and being water resistant to 10 Atmos (100m).
Inside is the Oris calibre 484 KIF. It is a 17 jewel manual wind movement which has the semi-quickset date function. It operates at a frequency of 18,000 BPH and has a 46 hour power reserve. It also benefits from KIF shock protection.
We love this due to it being the OG Oris diver that so much of the modern day Oris design is derived from!
Condition report
Dial
The dial is original and is in strong condition. It has some scratching where the hands have dragged on the dial and some light nicks to the edges. The signing is good and clear and the aged luminous is original.
Hands
The hands are original and are in good condition with light marking and no bending. They lack the luminous in-fill to the centre.
Crystal
The crystal appears original and is in strong condition with some light marking associated with age.
Crown
The crown is the original Oris signed crown. The Oris text is worn and the crown is also worn.
Case
The top of the case is chrome plated and has pitting and scratching associated with age. The rear of the front section has brassing where the chrome has worn.
Caseback
The case back is stainless steel and has some scratching from poor opening. The original engraving is clear.
Timekeeping and movement condition
The movement service history is unknown and as such, a service is recommended. The watch keeps time to within -90 seconds variation per day, with a strong amplitude of 305 degrees and a 0.4 m/s beat error. The date changes at 24 hours and semi quick sets.
