These framed prints titled Chiko and Elena were painted by artist Anne Allaben Farrell (1916-2009). The young girl’s print has normal vintage wear with a few paint rubs on the print and a flaw on the frame. Chiko portrait also has a small flaw on frame. Original paper backs have some paper tears. One has a charming piece of masking tape which reads: “Wedding gift from Eunice.” All in all, this portrait pair is in beautiful condition for its age. See photos.
Allaben was an American artist known for her portrait work, particularly of children. She worked for companies like Edward Gross Co. and C.R. Gibson Co., and her prints, often sold in pairs, were reproductions of original oil paintings. Chiko and Elena are some of her most well-known works. The young boy has dark hair and he’s wearing a white shirt, dark vest and a red scarf around his neck. He also has a hoop earring. Elena has curly brown hair adorned with a red flower. She’s wearing a white blouse, green vest and several necklaces. The backgrounds are soft, warm tones and the frames are dark wood with gold inner trim.
Anne Allaben's works are popular vintage prints, often depicting childhood as nostalgic and charming. The Edward Gross Co. reproduced many of Allaben's original oil paintings as prints.
