Welcome to Old_Time_Hockey, where we curate the artifacts of fascination from the global game. Today, we are featuring what is perhaps the most elusive variant of the legendary Swedish "bubble" helmet: a white JOFA 397 Senior from the late 1990s (circa 1998).
The 397 is a distinct evolution of the 390. This model is unique for its integrated half ear protection system, featuring robust ear loops that are securely riveted directly to the shell. This streamlined, pro-level silhouette was never made available on the North American retail market; it was exclusive to Sweden, making examples extremely hard to come across today, especially in this condition.
Sweden-Only Availability: This is a true import. The 397 was the preferred choice for elite Elitserien players of the era, offering the iconic look with upgraded, integrated ear safety not found on standard export models.
Museum-Quality Preservation: This shell is as close to "time capsule" as it gets. Critically for white helmets of this age, the high-density plastic is completely free of cracks.
Zero Oxidation: The high-end riveted hardware and fasteners are perfectly clean, showing no oxidation. This is nearly impossible to find on a vintage unit that has ever seen moisture.
Pristine Branding & Traceability: The large painted JOFA side logos are perfectly preserved. To finalize its collector status, the original factory UPC label is still present and legible on the interior.
Front Bumper Intact: The specialized front white rubber "397" bumper is present. Note: This helmet does not have a rear white bumper.
Condition Report for the Curator:
